Default 4.10'S IN!

Hey guys,

so my buddys just finish my eaton posi and frpp 4.10 gears, there telling me to take it easy, so I cant report on the performance feel yet (track soon to come). I feel as though there very drivable gears, for whatever reason in my head I thought I be shifting a lot soooner, but 4.10s are very drivable gears IMO.

There is some whine when I let go of the gas (gf hates it) and it is a pain because the noise increase's as i drive more (any suggestion?)

I'll let you know how it is on the highway soon, around 80-85 (maybe 70ish if its bad)

Did you follow the break-in schedule? If you don't it can increase the whining.

You say your buddies installed them - have they ever done it before? It is truly a job for a professional as minor mistakes result in major issues (i.e. whining...).

Ford gears should not whine at all when installed correctly. Sorry to give you the back news

My gears whined some when they first went in, but now they are pretty quiet, quiet enough for me because I can't hear it over the exhaust or radio. Only time I really hear a whine is under very light throttle in highway driving, it did this stock too but now it is louder.

Whining with FFRP gears is not good. The last time I had a set of gears whine it was when I had 5.30s put in my 69 426 Roadrunner. They whined until the pinion and ring gear their teeth.

Did you use Ford gears or another brand? The Ford gears should not whine. Other brands are known to whine.

The gears are Ford Racing 4.10 gears. My buddys are mec and have done gears several times including their own cars. They did what i believe they called a "back lash" test and they paint them to check the "pattern". Everything came out ok, the pattern was good and the reading for back lash read 9.5. They told me not to get on it or "bang gears", and wait 200 miles at least.

On a good note, they don't seem to whine today and I had to open it up a little in 3rd and WOW, they should of came w/ the car + a 6th gear. I really feel like my times will lower when I go to the track, I'll keep u guys update w/ the whine and my new track #'s.

Had mine installed at the dealership for $557 with the rebuild kit and have not had any problem with them in 7 months.

I don't know a couple months maybe? It seemed to get quieter every week.

Bad news.
Whiners are not whinners...
There are problems with them there 4.10s.
Your buddy is not really a buddy, is he.
If so he would have passed on your gear install.
What tools were used for this install?
What was the preload on the pinion crush sleeve?
Sounds like your pinion is too far from the ring....

Are they FRPP gears or Motives labled as FRPP?
Was there a big M stamped into the ring gear?
M =s Motive.
Its been known to happen.
FRPP is not FRPP when it comes to gears....
