Default My misfire story

Prior to the KB install the motor was running great. Perfectly timed, no vibrations, built for boost and 800 rwhp. So after starting the car for the first time, I noticed a really strange vibration at idle. Felt and sounded like a misfire. Went through all the pulleys, checked the blower, checked the vacuum lines, pulled vaccuum and figured out there was a leak. After searching through all the possible sources I found a crack in the back of the SC manifold near the bypass valve. Kind of hidden and definately something KB missed. They promptly (2 weeks later because it's polished) got me another intake. Replaced it, still had the miss but no vacuum leak. Checked all plugs, found one that was coated with unburnt fuel. EUREKA!!! I found it!! Drove the car after swapping the plug. Much better (probably in my head). But it got worse. Bad lugging in 5th gear and vibrating like a ***** on Saturday night. I had 4-5 people go over the plugs, coils, connectors, checking the 2 step blah blah blah. Nothing. All speechless and had their own great solutions.

I take the Old Geezer (Dad, yes it's what I call him) out for a spin on his 60th B-Day. He announces the obvious and so we go to the gargage and we start picking at things all over again. I decide to take the 2 step off just to eliminate the module. Low and behold I see that somehow a wire was cut in two pieces going to the driver side rear coil. Luckily I had a new coil connecter and 10 minutes later and a new connector later, all is good.

So as a result of the misfire it caused my belt on the blower to slip very erratically. To cure the symptom instead of the cause ( I'm mentally challenged at times), I ordered an 8 rib kit. So now I have zero belt slip and great power and I don't need the 8 rib kit.

I have no idea how the wire got cut. I'm sure it was my fault since I'm the only one who works on the car.

This crap stresses me out.

Believe it or not I had this same problem once. This was a long time ago though. I noticed the problem when I took my ride out late at night. I knew it was a misfire though. I pop the hood and I clearly saw the sparks from one of my wires. I just wonder how the hell I end upu having a cut wire, I still wonder. lol It look like fireworks under my hood. lol Dianosing a car in the dark sometimes helps to find the cause of a misfire.
One time I worked on someone's car and I just happened to tap all the wires and guess what. A sparkplug was lose. It was broken.
With belt problems.
I had another person but with a SC installed and the power steering pump pulley was misaligned which caused repeated belt failures. The guy kept changing his belts after another.

Very good points made here. I am not a mechanic, have no training or a mentor that guides me through anything. So it's all trial and error. Everytime I do something to my car I learn something.

I have already aligned the power steering pulley.

Being in the dark would not be not a bad idea to see if it was arching somewhere.

The good news is the cars makes awesome power now.

Same symptoms as mine, but mine was the accel coils. I'm surprised it didn't set a lean code like mine.

Glad you were able to find the problem. When I put my KB on I had a coolant leak in the valley of the motor. I ended up taking the SC off 3 times trying to find it. Flat out drove me crazy. Turned out to be a bad silicone sealing ring on the water jacket that goes between the heads.
