VCT sensor solenoid seal – Engine light!

Default VCT sensor solenoid seal – Engine light!

Engine light kept coming on, I disconnected the battery and it was back on in about an hour of driving. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it was the VCT sensor solenoid seal. Has anyone come across this before? It is a major problem? not the cheapest thing to do from the dealer, can it wait?
In short what the hell is it and what does it do lol I do know where it is located though lol

are you talking about the piece you can see
on the cam cover or do you mean something else?

It sounds like a camshaft position sensor. When might went out on the exhaust portion I lost a lot of torque. It sounds like your gasket may have gone and the sensor itself might be ok from the description you gave, I don't know.

I haven't worked on Mustangs but you could try to pull the sensor and see what you can see (gasket condition, sensor condition, etc) if it isn't too hard to get to.

That last post should have read, "When mine went out on the exhaust portion..." etc, etc. Sorry about that.

I looked around and found a camshaft position sensor, hopefully it is quite a bit less than you were quoted. I'm sure you could change it yourself with little trouble if any.

Anyway, it is nice to be on the forum. I hope to own a Mustang GT here soon and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you guys soon enough. I already have a list of the mods I want and I don't even have the car yet.

Thanks for the replys

I will attach a pic and diagram of the part circled by the dealer. Looks like something easily done just cant find the part if it is not the one already showed to me on here.
Also please relay on diagram the pic pointing is me where I think it is lol

imkman, do you know what the Data Trouble Code
is? Usually when the Check Engine Light comes on
there will be a code stored in memory for
retrieval. you can go to autozone to have it read.
it would help us, help you, if we knew the code.

i had it read and the dealer said it was that and gave me a diagram, ill check if there is a code on the workorder. THX

keep in mind the computer is not smart enough to diagnose the problem only to tell you what it is seeing and let you do the legwork. I laugh my *** off when people say that they have a bad o2 sensor code on their ford. there is no such code. The computer can not tell u the sensor is bad, just that it is running lean or rich or that the heater circuit is open. Even the heater circuit code can be wiring related. I have seen a lot of o2 sensor connectors with pins pulled back throw that code.

but i digress. give us the code. will make it easier to lead you in the right direction/...
