Interesting Find ... my GT has Dual Piston Front Calipers

Ford advertises Dual Piston Front Calipers as part of the Track Pack and 3.73 Axle Package. I was just out painting my Calipers and guess what .. They are Dual Piston .... Anyone else check their Calipers to see if they are single or dual?

I'm ripping mine off anyways, so it doesn't really matter to me. If I don't have the track pack, I probably have single-piston f/r.

I just have a feeling that Ford includes them with either the 3.55 package as well .. or includes them with the 19" Wheel package along with the Strut Tower Brace. For some reason they just don't advertise that.

EDIT: quick look around the internet shows ALL S197's have dual piston front Caliper. Not sure why Ford even mentions it in their specs for the different packages.

Pretty sure the calipers are the same on all models, regardless of track pack or gear ratio.

FWIW, my gt is a base model with just 3.73s, had dual piston front calipers. Only difference with the track pack and 3.73s is a different compound front pad. 3.73 and track pack get the same, track pack gets upgraded sway bars and rear control arms, same as the GT500.

FYI, the rear calipers are also 2 piston.

I've got the GT500 14" brembos on the front now, so I'm enjoying 4 piston calipers.

Thanks ... I was just updating my prior post saying all S197 calipers are dual piston.

Do the Brembo's fit with any of the 18" or 19" factory wheels?

smokinAMD 03-27-2010 07:22 PM

Nope. Only factory wheel they fit is a GT500 wheel, either the 18's from the 2007-2009 or the 19's from the 2010.

I bought 2007 GT500 wheels a few days before I snagged up the brake. $1,400 for the brembos, and wheels and tires with less than 450 miles on it all. WIN!

Thanks ... I do have 19's on my car so Brembo's could be an option ...

You sure the OEM 19s fit with Brembo calipers?

smokinAMD 03-27-2010 07:45 PM

They aren't gt500 19's though. Different offset and not as wide, so they don't fit. Wilkinda found this out when he got his gt500 wheels.
