Default Can of marbles???

Sometimes when I got WOT the car makes a noise that kinda sounds like marbles rattling in a can (I know that is a pretty crappy description, but dont know what else to call it). It doesnt seem to matter if it is from a standstill, or slow roll in second or third, it still does it. Any ideas? Thanks much!

5 spd, steeda intake, brenspeed 91 tune and I run 92 octane.

reload your tune to rule it out, and make sure you have the correct gas for it, you might be pinging

+1 it sounds like you're running the wrong octane or tune.

I had a similar noise with mine before I installed my supercharger. Turns out the metal filter ring on my JLT was rattling against my hood. A little repositioning of the intake and it was fixed.

Is there some way to read the tune, or do I need to call brenspeed and have them verify? Right now I have the 91 octane tune loaded, and I am running 92 octane gas from shell, chevron, or 76, no cheap crap ever.

As for the intake possible being the cause, I will look into that tomorrow during the daytime.

It's best to get it on a dyno with an experienced ear. I have a dyno day organized for our local PNW Mustang group on April 10th. It's located about 20 miles SE of Seattle. $60 for two or three pulls. Everything your motor is doing will be monitored.

Link to the sign up thread is here: http://stangnation.com/index.php?topic=8746.0

Tuners location is here: http://www.hpranch.com/

As of now There's still room on the standby list. I'd guesstimate it to be about 2.5 hours from Portland.

I would love to attend, but I have to work that day. And sadly, I just started, so taking a day off would not be in my best interest

bluovalguy - Does the noise happen all of the time or just occasionally? How long ago did you get your tune?

I had the pinging happen occasionally under WOT. I recently emailed Brenspeed about this problem and asked if they had changed their tune since I purchased their tune package. I thought that they may have changed it slightly since I purchased my CAI/tune from them 2 years ago as the gas stations started adding 10% ethanol to their gas in the summer of 2008.

Brenspeed said that the addition of ethanol to our gas has caused them to run slightly less aggresive settings in the tune. They suggested that I pull a degree or two from both the 2000-4000 and 4000-8000 RPM ranges and see if that corrects the problem.

I pulled one degree from each RPM range and have not had the pinging again (I did this two weeks ago).

I want to let everybody know that Brenspeed has terrific customer service! They responded to my emails very quickly, usually under 30 minutes, and was very helpful on a purchase I made from them 2 years ago. Thanks Brenspeed!

Not all the time, just occasionally. Maybe 50-50. I installed the tune on 30 Dec 09.

I have not played with the tuner much, can I pull the timing out right from it? If so then I will do that this afternoon. I was also gonna put the 87 tune in and see if that fixes it.

As for brenspeeds service, I have nothing but good things to say. Always fast and top quality. No complaints at all.
