Anybody know what the widest tire I can go with on my 18 x 9.5 rear wheels?

I currently have 255/48/18s all the way around and the rears need to be beefed up.

I'm thinking of a 285 or a 295, but would go bigger if I don't have any issues with rubbing or fitment. Maybe even a 305 or 315?

285 is the most you'll probably fit on an 18x9.5 if you go by the recommended specs for most tires. You can probably do a 295 or even a 305 but it will be outside of the specs most often recommended.

Thanks man. I decided to go with a 285/40/18 . I'll have them on tomorrow and will post pics. I'm keeping the 255s up front on the 18x8s. The rears are 18x9.5 so the 285s should look pretty good.

Man, I wish I was an active duty Chief still, where I could mod the Davy Jones Locker out of my Mustang like you Dave! What are they paying you guys these days? Gold doublins? I want to buy that BBR cowl induction hood next, why don't you hook an old Chief up, there shipmate? Lets see some pictures when your done!

Ha ha! That's funny man! I didn't know you're a retired Chief. That's awesome. The pay is pretty good here in the DC area. I get about 2400 bucks a month just for my housing allowance alone, not to mention my normal pay, so it's not bad at all. I know when I finally retire I'm going to have to make over 100 grande a year just to match the pay I get now because of the taxes that I'll get taken out as a civilian. Granted, I pay taxes now, but only half of my pay is taxable.

That hood is badass. Davy Jones would be proud!

I'll post pictures tomorrow after I get the tires on.

Thanks for the info man! Do you have any pictures of the rear with the 285s on there. I'm pretty stoked about it. I'm not too happy about paying over 400 bucks just for the two rear tires, but it could have been worse. I know it's gonna look sweet though.
