Fuel trims
Ever since my after market coils went bad on me I've been keeping an eye on my fuel trims. Mostly long term, but I monitor short term some times. I noticed both banks constantly increasing to the point of +20 at idle. I knew I didn't have a vacuum leak so i started looking for leaks between the throttle body and Maf.
I ended up cleaning the MAF sensor and sealing the grommet in the whipple intake for the passenger side valve cover breather. That's the only place for unmetered air to enter, not the greatest seal. I pulled the negative battery cable to reset the fuel trims and now long term has settled to 0.7-2.3 at idle. I'm not sure if the grommet was letting in air or not, but there was some fine dust on the inside of the intake where that grommets at. No dust at the beginning of the intake, so it's suspect.
I think the MAF is very sensitive to oil from the air filter getting on it. If i notice the fuel trims creaping back up, I'll immediately clean the MAF first thing.
My gas mileage has also gone up over 1mpg.
