The A/C compressor does take up a decent about of power, and it can be felt even on a V8. It's been one of my peevs with Ford for a long time- they use an a/c system that simply cycles the compressor on and off; it's not variable. You will notice when the compressor kicks on.

You can either manually turn it off, if you need full power, or simply floor it. The PCM will switch off the compressor at WOT. Although, it still shouldn't feel like a Civic - lol. You might really offend someone with that comparision.

I've never owned a car (have owned at least 9 or 10) that didn't feel like it had the life sucked out of it with the A/C on. Considering the load an AC compressor adds to an engine, are you really surprised?

The S197 cuts out the AC at WOT BTW.
I was going to add the mod but a little
detective work proved Ford designed it
that way already....

Maybe the underdrive pullies help, but I don't notice too much of drop of power when the A/C is on.

The AC cycles and UDPs dont effect it that much.
The compressor cycles just become longer and
shorter inbetween but it never runs 100% indicating
a loss of cooling power. If it compresses the freon and
then there is enough excess compressed freon, the compressor
cycles off. This indicates that the compressor is keeping up
with the compressed freon demand for any one cooling situation.
