Default Why so damn tight!!!

Why oh why does the factory put the oil filter on so friggin tight!? Just did first oil change and took me about 30 minutes of various techniques to get that stupid thing off. I ended up crushing the filter housing with my filter wrench. Eventually resorted to the jaws of death (15" channel locks).

You would think with the factory so hung up on proper torque specs they would know enough not to over tighten the oil filter. God I hate that!

End rant.

I think it's due to really bored factory workers placing bets to see who can tighten the filters are hard as they can during their lunch breaks. That or the robotic arms that do the job are malfunctioning, and no one decided to fix them.

Either way, those SOBs are on pretty tight lol

Buy an oil filter wrench. They are only a few dollars and can save you some serious b@ll straining

When I prepared to do my first oil change on the Stang, I bought a "jaws of death" type filter wrench in addition to the 3 or 4 other filter removal tools I have (been doing my own oil changes for over 33 years on over a dozen cars). I fully anticipated that I'd have to crush the filter to remove it. And I did.

But to answer the question in a different light... I LIKE it tight.

Actually, she said "Tight, aren't I?"

and I said "No. Just full."

After months of service, they are always much tighter coming off than they went on. Normal.
