synthetic oil life

RE: synthetic oil life
Real synthetic oil lasts about 1.5 times what regular oil lasts...so if the recommended interval is 5000 clicks, you could go 7500.
HOWEVER, if you drive the car hard, you should change it at 5000 anyways.

RE: synthetic oil life
I started using Amsoil in my Silverado after doing alot of research on synthetics. I also use their oil filters. Most of the time I go 12,000 between changes which is when Amsoil recommends changing the filter. I drive in Houston, Tx with temps hovering around 100 more often than not and spend a couple of days a week in stop and go traffic. The truck has 108,000 miles with no engine issues. I know most people dont want to go that long with their new pony but the true synthetics can easily go double or triple the 3000 mile interval.

RE: synthetic oil life
just a little advice, all the new oils that have huge milage change intervals are what they claim to be an oil that will not brake down for whatever amount of miles they say. The problem is that the filter company's have not caught up with the oil company's the filters still need to be changed every 3k miles, especialy on a car that is run hard. Your engine is only as strong as its weekest link, I don't think it is worth having dirty oil (filter used up after 3k miles) to save a few bucks. Btw i run the mobil 1 on my 05 as well, this whole rant was just to bring awarness to the importance of regular filter changes, which ultimatly result in regular oil changes.
this is quoted from this site http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm#Oi...ge%20Intervals
"Filter Change Interval
Back in the days of 3000 mile oil changes many manufacturers recommended filter changes only half as often because the filter did not become clogged with dirt at only 3000 miles. This was good advice back then, especially because with non-detergent motor oils a lot of the sludge remained stuck to internal engine parts rather than being carried in the oil to the filter. Nowadays the filter should be changed at every oil change. There are some people who believe so much in synthetic oil that they change filters without changing the oil. There's no harm in changing the filter without changing the oil, but there is no point in doing this."
There are some filters that are supposed to last 7k miles like FRAM X2â„¢ Extended Guard Premium Filter Filter, but I dont knopw of any that last 12k miles

I run Royal Purple and a K&N Oil Filter in my car. I switch the oil and filter every 3000 miles. Though, my car does see weekly strip use so I change it before I really need to.
