Question Wondering what kind of HP I would be looking at with....

06GT with 3.55 gears

Right now all I have is a C&L Racer CAI with a 91 oct Brenspeed tune.
I am really considering ordering some Detroit Rocker cams and having a shop put them in. (No way I am doing it myself, out of the question)

I was wondering what kind of HP I would be looking at after the cam install and new tune from Brenspeed.
Not gains from where I am at now, but from STOCK.

In other words, what would I be at as far as HP with this setup?

Here is the thing, cams work at their best when you have long tube headers.......ie you get the most out of them when you have headers. But you will still see an increase in power without headers. How much? Idk. The brenspeed dyno graph was with a car with headers and it put down an additional 30 hp if I remember correctly.

Headers are a no no for me.
I am in Texas and we have to retain our cats here to pass inspection.

Brenspeed claims 30 with headers?
Ford claims they are getting 30 from their Hot Rod cams without headers if I read correctly...

here's the link..
http://www.fordracingpartsdirect.com.../m-6550-3v.htm

They also talk about another issue..
The Ford Racing "hot rod" cams are by far the most powerful street/strip cams on that market that are compatible and retain the stock valvetrain. These cams are designed to be compatible with, and make the most of, the variable cam timing system. Unlike other cams, these cams do not use cam timing lockout plates.
Brand X cams that require upgraded valvetrain and cam timing lockouts are not optimal for street cars and cars that want to retain maximum low end torque. Your usually not driving over 4,500 RPM. That is why these performance cams are a great fit since they retain the use of the variable cam timing system and still have that wicked exhaust sound.
So are the Hot Rod cams better?
Are they the same?
What exactly is the difference?

You do know that you can have headers with cats right? I've got Kooks 1 3/4" long tubes and their 3" catted H mid-pipe.

Money is also an issue.

I guess I could add the long tubes later right?

I'm thinking that 30 HP claim is crank and ideal. IMO, you might see 10-15 with the cams and w/o the LT's. Although I'm not a proponent of shorties, with cams they may help the combo (cams and shorties) as opposed to what shorties do on their own.

Cams and a good tune always FTW. Headers are simply gravy...

I'll be saving up the money for the gravy later then.

The cams will be first and I might swap my 3.55's for 4.10's when I do the cams.

Now comes the difficult part.
Finding a place to do this.
Again no way in hell I am doing it on my own.
No place within 250mi of here that does this kind of work.
(except a stealership that quoted me 1200 just for the gear job)

So I need to find a place as far West as the Lubbock/Midland/Odessa area or a place as far East as the DFW area that has a good rep.

I'll probably get Brenspeed to email me a revised tune BEFORE I take her in that way I can just have them plug in my SCT after the install and load the tune.
Not gonna drive home that far without the tune loaded.

Any suggestions on good shops in those areas?

DynoJoe is in Houston, not sure if that is too far for you or not. He
used to run specials for hot rod cam installs, i'm sure he'd be happy
to install DR's also.

Houston is a bit far but if that's what it takes I'll do it.
Thanks for the advice on that hammeron.
If anyone else knows a good place in the areas I talked about let me pls let me know!

And oh yeah... what about the Detroit Rockers vs. the Ford Racing Hot Rod cams?

(see questions in posts above about them)

well now that you opened the door to the HR's (lol)....

i would call joe and see what he prefers as far as tuning goes,
you may as well get him to dyno tune your car after the cam
install.

if you go with HR's, you can save some clams and buy mine.

as far as which cam is better, that's gonna be a tough one. both
are excellent and it really boils down to the quality of the tune.
