401A shift ball question - 2010 and 2011 models
With the 401A package, which includes the OEM shift ball instead of the ****, there is a different boot to accommodate a smaller opening. How is this boot held up? Is there something on the bottom of the shifter ball that holds the boot in place (like with the larger shifter ****)?
I'm thinking of ordering an aftermarket shift ball and possibly the OEM boot that went with the 401A. However, I'm afraid the boot needs a retaining ring of some sort.

yeas, the bottom of the shift **** has a palce for it and the opening in teh shft boot is smaller to match up. i have teh 401a on my 10 and teh 5.0 im driving this week has the plain shifter, i didnt realize what a great and comfortable shift know the 401a **** is. Almost enough to forgive it branding me with the 5speed pattern on hot summer days. ill be in michigan later this month, goign to dearborn for a ford event, anywhere near there?

I'm not sure what size it is, I had the crap stack racing ball from AM on my 05 and this feels exactly the same in hand. Stay away from the stack racing crap. the ball came off the threaded sleeve withing a day of installing it. For $35 i woudl just grab the factory ball honestly, it's a very nice shifter and appears to at least be coated in real aluminum. It does get hot in the summer here though. OH, and you may have to go factory to get teh 6-speed pattern. not many of them out there right now. this dude makes soem nice shift *****:

He will custom color them for you. i was going to have him do one for me in GB with teh same glack stripes as my car. He quoted my $70 with an adapter to use my 401a shift boot.
