2010 GT Negotiation with X-plan
Hi all. I am looking onto getting a 2010 GT because of the discounts available from Ford. I also have an X-plan pin.
Most dealerships are selling their 2010 GTs at invoice minus rebates already (x-plan pricing is about $200 above invoice).
So my question is this...
What (if anything) is the x-plan pin worth to the dealership? For example, since they are already offering at invoice, can I get a deeper discount if I give them my pin as well? Does Ford reimburse them somewhat for this?
Thanks

Torroba, I had always heard, when using one of the plans, that you cannot negotiate above and beyond the plan discounts. I don't know if that's garbage or not.
If it's true, you'd be better off negotiating on a 2010 then trying to use the plan.

Plan prices are fixed. You may be able to negotiate below invoice, but remember, "3,000 under" before rebates, etc, on a new 2010 Mustang probably won't happen. A dealer is given holdback, approx 800-1200 ish depending on model, to help offset flooring, insurance etc. You will need to see how far below invoice they may go by not buying on X-plan, but.... on the plan price, they usually don't allow the dealer to charge "Doc" fees, that may be from 300-500, if you go outside plan pricing, then they can charge you the "Doc" fee. Confusing, eh?
So, if you can buy the car for $300 below invoice, but have to pay $499 Doc fee, or X-plan at $100 over with no Doc fee.....

If you take the 0% financing, you should be able to get a 2010 for under invoice still...but more like 500-1k under invoice.

As I stated, if you are paying more than $3000 BELOW invoice for a 2010 GT you are paying too much. Whether that's with rebates or whatever.
That would be the MAX you should pay.
If your dealer doesn't want to go that low, tell him, "you could make the sale right now, or remember this when you still have this car sitting on your lot in 6+ months." Then walk out. Hit up the dealer in your area with the most 2010 GT's sitting on their lot. They'll sell it to you, then drive back to that dealer that wouldn't and tell them they might want to get a new sales manager, and show them your sales price from the dealer who was smart enough to know they need to sell them that low to move those cars off their lot.
Between the rebates from Ford and the discounts the dealer should be willing to go, you should get several thousands below invoice.

Also...was that 1.9% through Ford or your own financing?
So, if you add the rebates back in...you paid $32.5k...invoice was prob $33k and as I said...without the rebates...don't expect to pay $3k under invoice...most you will get is $500-1k under.

If you dont mind me asking...what made up the $4500 in rebates? I know of $2500 rebate...where/what was the other $2k?

And YES, you CAN get $3k or more below invoice with rebates.
Dealers are going to take some loss on leftover 2010 cars.
Galpin Ford has like 30 2010 GT's on their lot, do you really think people will pay only $1k under invoice for a 2010 when you can get a 2011 GT for under invoice already (with rebates)???
