Default whipple question...

inquiring for father in law has 07 shelby gt, that he put ho whipple charger on 1 year ago and runs about 10 -12 psi up here in colorado..over the period hes had this charger ,he keeps having trouble with his belt slipping ...hes even brought it back in to the dealer for them to tell him the same thing....so he keeps replacing the belt and then it keeps slipping after a month or two ..another thing he noticed is on his last couple of wot runs ..hes only able to get 5 psi out of his charger ....what do you think is wrong ??? he is acutally gonna order the expensive idler pulley system that consists of the 10 rib ( i think) belt----hoping that that helps...do you think that will solve it? any info helps -thanks

I have a whipple system on my 08GT. I have heard of some problems with peoples belts slipping, although i havent had a problem yet except idler pullys breaking on me. Not sure if the belt could be causing your to loose boost PSI. Its a little $$$ but you could check out the steeda belt drive system for whipple SC's. I beleive the boost pulley is 11-13 PSI and with a good dyno tune that thing should run like a champ. Also I would call whipple about this situation, i have delt with them a many of time and I think there service is quite helpfull.

How many miles are on the car?? Sounds like it may be a weak idler pulley. Does he have the right size belt? He didn't install underdrive pulleys before the Whipple did he??

sounds like the loss of boost is from the belt slipping.
belt slippage and pulley squeal is not uncommon for TS SC.
i would suggest you start with a heavy duty tensioner like the Thumprrr. i have the thumprrr with the 90mm pulley and 8 rib kit.

no need for the steeda 10 rib kit at that low boost level, the 8 rib kit which replaces all the pulleys and replaces the serpentine belt with a 8 rib belt is sufficient and can be run at 20+ psi without problems, and is cheaper than the steeda one.

the tensioner alone may fix your problem.

A Thump_rrr tensioner solved my belt slip (and bent tensioner) issues.

just another thought- I would check the free roll of the components the belt drives to make sure one is not binding- slip the belt off and spin the idlers, alternator, supercharger- may not answer your question - but easy enough to do>

1/2 drive socket on the tensioner and the belt slacks to allow for the check.
