Default hey whipple guys... got squeak?

seems like when i start up my car after it sits for a while like overnight or longer a squeak comes up sounding like from the ideler pulley or the whipple pulley itself. Last time i had this happen after about a month the squeak got worse and i had the sliding idler pully crap out on me on I95 and it took out my belt with it. Hope i dont have to deal with stuff like that again cause the squeak seems to be coming back now.

So you actually put water on the belt and the squeaking just went away? do you have to put water on the belt all the time, i dont know how a rubber belt can make that squeak noise

you probly will need to replace the bad idler pulley.
the bearings are known to crap out.
i had the squeak and went over the edge and replaced all of them with an 8-rib kit.

dang i just freekin replaced it. I had whipple send me a new pulley and belt. My 100mm pulley craped out not too long ago either i picked one up at napa auto parts. It had a big chunk bit out of it. These pulleys are rediculous, gonna haveto do something about these pulleys and squeak problems. Eventually mght have to just drop the money for the steeda kit.

Well this may or may not help.

So I was driving along and noticed a bad squeak, the squeak got worse. So I pull over and my water pump is pulley is wobbling everywhere and one rib of my belt is shredded. Get home and the water pump pulley failed. Install a new HD edelbrock waterpump and new belt.

Start the car up and notice that the driver's side idler pulley is wobbling. I hear this is a common problem for some reason with whipples, something isn't lining up. So I ordered another pulley, measured the new pulley and found a slight offset from front to back. I installed the new pulley flipped. This eliminated 80% of the wobble.

So far so good. FYI I ordered the goodyear gatorback pulley.

the 8 rib kit is about half the price of the steeda one, and it replaces all the pullies, and you can run any 8 rib whipple pulley.

I have been using "Gunk Belt Conditioner" and a wire brush when when I get the elusive sqeak. I just lighly roughen the belt up in front of the pullies and spray a bit of conditioner on the belt before each pully and problem solved till next time.Which so far has been a couple of months. But I will be definataly going for the 8 rib as stated above.Looks like a cheap easy mod.

An idler pulley is about the cheapest thing to go wrong on these motors so just calm down and be happy it wasn't something worse. Perhaps it's a good idea to look further into new/strange noises when you first hear them. It's odd that whatever it did threw the belt though, unless the idler was so far gone the bearing broke up and knocked the pulley off centre, which is highly unlikely unless it was squawking for a LONG time.

Oh, the word rediculous - ? It doesn't exist.
