Default MGW Shifter Issues (loose with deadplay)

I've recently installed a new MGW shifter in my 05 GT. I have two issues with it.

1st there is alot of freeplay/deadplay when in neutral moving it side-to-side.

2nd when shifting into 1st 2nd or 5th I can pull it way past where the gear starts (left and right). For example when shifting into 1st I pull the shifter left, push it forward but then it falls back to the right slightly where it rests.

Does anyone else have these issues? Is this normal for a short throw shifter?

Hmmmm that doesn't seem right at all. That shifter should be very notch and stiff.
How many turns out have you set the...adjustment (technical term)?
I would get back under the car and make sure everything is torqued to specs.
Also are you sure that the shift lever is tightened down? Maybe the top is moving around while the bottom isn't?
Surely it's got to be something silly...good luck!

I have it turned out 8 turns.

The guy from MGW said all of my issues are normal. I find this hard to believe because everyone says how good and firm thier MGW is.

I have checked everything underneath and it seems tight. I had a friend wiggle the shifter while I was under the car. The remote linkage moves perfectly with the shifter.
