Default Do those with FI have to swap engine internals?

I see a lot of threads here about people slapping superchargers on the 4.6s. Do you guys have to put in any forged components to do this safely at 6 psi or so? Does the 5.0 need forged internals whereas the 4.6 does not?

For what it's worth.

I was talking to the tech manager at ford. He has a twin turbo GT but with a built motor. He was telling me these motors are much stronger then previous 99-04 and has seen several with 450 to the wheels running fine. I asked that questions specifically and he said NO. He said running 6 lbs is safe and he has not seen any problems yet.......He did say only 1 blew... ended up having 6 bent rods... a hellion turbo that had somewhere around 540 i think he said.

the roush kits run 5-6 psi, some blowers run more. If you stay in teh 450whp range the stock internals on the 4.6 are fine. The 5.0 being so new who knows, i think most of the blowers are staying in the 5psi range for it since the CR is so high.

Whose dyno was that 500 rear wheel on?

My car has been on two dynos in the Baton Rouge area. There was a 20% difference in numbers between them...no tuning...just pulls with same boost. 500 on one can be 400 on the other.

There are two schools of though on this. The first is to run it till it blows and then build a motor and hope your sc and heads didn't get taken out when the rod went.

The other is to keep the power low until a built block is swapped in. That's the route I took. The benfits of that are you do the rebuild on your own time and there isn't a tow involved.

FWIW even with the built motor my car would only make 488rwhp on the Whipple supplied injectors and stock maf with a custom tune, with the Whipple tune it made 448 rwhp. Dynos vary.

There are two schools of thought on this

Agree....however for many whose cars are dragraced on a prepped surface for ETs, a built motor is just an excuse to double the boost and offers little security against eventual failure. I am on my second built motor after the first blew head-gaskets and changed the shape of pistons. In fact I personally know many that have lost built motors on their S197s.

A good day at the dragstrip is when the car can be driven onto the trailer without having to use the winch.

It's not needed to swap internals for F.I. you can run 7-8 psi safely if the tune is on the money forever!!! 10-11 psi can be run safely if the tune is right also for a very long time, years even. If she does go boom the FRPP 3V Aluminator short block is available.
