What's Louder And by How Much?
Kooks LTs with Cats or O/R H with stock manifolds?
I'm looking to change up the exhaust and quiet it down a bit. I've been kicking around the idea of either shorty headers and then electric cut-outs downstream of the cats so I can have loud days and quiet days or going Kooks LTs with Cats. I'm running MAC axle backs. It's not so much a question of HP as a question of noise. I'll sacrifice a few HP to be a little quieter. But if Kooks with Cats is quieter than an O/R H with stock manifolds it just might be the ticket. Any help appreciated. Soon to be part of the "went loud, now want some peace and quiet crew" |
WHen i had my cams installed i had the h pipe installed with flowmasters. it sounded great at idle but when i took off the trumpeting sound that combo makes was evil. I have since put hi flow cats on and now i can really say i love my exhaust sound. So thumbs up for h pipe and hi flow cats.

o/r mid pipe will be louder

Youre not gonna quiet it down much with LTs( even with cats). youre best bet would be hi-flow cats or resonators.

Lt with h pipe and hf cats. Added ATflowmasters=no drone. Added m80s=no trumpeting......now it's freaking perfect. Wonderful deep idle with cam lope. Thick fat deep tone with any throttle, no drone, no trumpeting. Forget the shorties. Lt's or stock manifolds. |
I guess I'll just throw the stock H back in and add electric cut-outs. Seems to be the most cost effective solution.

What happens if you replace your hi-flow cats with resonators, what would the sound difference be like.

I have pypes hf cats. I really feel like they are superfow....they didn't do much at all and the reason why I also added resonators.
Kooks hf s have been known to fail and clog up. |
