Default How long have you been boosted?

I get a lot of questions regarding the longevity of of the 4.6 3V when running boost. I'd like to have some hard information to back up my responses with, so here are a few questions if you guys don't mind helping me out:

1. What kind of power adder do you run?
2. Intercooled or non-intercooled?
3. How much boost?
4. How long have you been boosted (in years, months, etc.)?
5. How many miles have you been boosted?
6. What kind of tune do you run?
7. Stock block or built?

I'll go first.

1. Whipple.
2. Intercooled.
3. 12psi currently (used to be 11psi with the stock 10psi pulley).
4. About 2 years and 7 months.
5. About 4,000 miles.
6. Currently on a custom dyno tune, but used canned tunes from Brenspeed and FRPP when I had the stock pulley.
7. Stock.

I'd also be happy to hear from the 5.0 guys because I'm curious as to how well those cars are standing up to boost as well. Thanks guys.

1. What kind of power adder do you run?
Whipple HO
2. Intercooled or non-intercooled
Started non-intercooled, went ho about a year ago.
3. How much boost?
Currently at about 16psi. It really depends on the weather.
4. How long have you been boosted (in years, months, etc.)?
Since November of 2008
5. How many miles have you been boosted?
12,500+
6. What kind of tune do you run?
Currently running a custom tune. Have also run the FRPP tune with no complaints. I have too many variables with my motor to run the FRPP tune anymore.
7. Stock block or built?
First 5,000 miles on the stock block, last 7,500 on a block with forged rods and pistons.

8. (I added this one on my own) What kind of power are you making, do you have a dyno sheet?

my story is basically the same, give or take a year or two and maybe 3000 miles.

Bruce your dyno tech is a wizard. That's the flattest A/F curve I've ever seen on a Whipple.

I added another one in there for guys like Bruce and Hammy. (Stock block or built. I already know the answer for you guys).

1. Vortech V3 Centrifugal supercharger
2. Non-intercooled
3. 8 psi (cool), 5-6 psi (hot)
4. 4 months
5. 2,400 miles
6. Brenspeed 90 octane tune
7. Stock block, second motor due to over boost issue on first.

Overall, it's a great kit for the street but horrible for the track. Things get way too hot under the hood and boost gets pulled like a biotch. A massive power increase from a mere CAI/tune, but it's more of a tease of what FI is all about.. kinda like "sticking it in just a little, just to see how it feels like" but not truly going all the way, feels amazing but in the end, you just get frustrated lulz Sure, you could spend money, go full bolt on's and get "some" power but it still won't even compare to the power this little blower makes.

2006
Within a month of purchase, got intercooled P1SC Procharger, at 9 lbs boost on stock motor. Car used as a daily. Dynotune and 0 issues for about 9000 miles.

2007
swapped to an intercooled 67mm single turbo at 16 lbs boost and built 302 stroker. Dragstrip use increased. Dynotune. 6 point roll bar, so car had very limited street use (about 25 miles per week).

2008
upgraded to intercooled 76mm single at 22 lbs boost. Car not very streetable with spooled rear and 10 point cage. Dynotune and almost no street use. So mileage still under 10,000.

Blew up built motor at 22 lbs boost soon after car ran 10 flat on sputtering dying motor.

2009-2010
Car and motor rebuilt. No longer streetable (spool, 2 speed GM transmission) nor street legal. Just for dragracing. Not dynotuned yet (working on fuel cell). Looking for 25-27 lbs boost. Trailered.

Steve I'm gonna have to let you know when I make it out to TPS for my tune so you'll know who drooled on your car.

Hey...I am in your neck of the woods on saturdays. Teach part time at LSUHSC, Gravier street. Park the turbo (of course) diesel under the overhead walkway. Cool to go back to my alma mater, although it was called LSU Medical Center back then.

1. Saleen
2. Intercooled
3. 9.5 psi
4. 3 yrs / 11 months (Since 9/06)
5. 48,000 miles
6. Custom tune
7. Stock block - track the car 3 or 4 times a year and drive it like it's stolen. No problems to date. The car has never seen the inside of a Dealer Service Dept except for TSB and A/C repair. Luck has a lot to do with longevity ... for me, anyway. LOL
