Racing stripes?

Racing stripes?
I want to get stripes painted on, but I'm stuck on the Mexican border. The only place in town does decals not paint. Does anybody have comments on the decals, or does anybody know of a good paint shop in San Antonio, Tx.

RE: Racing stripes?
I had the Ford dealer install my stripes for an additional $100 ( I think they screwed themselves). Of coarse if they were painted on, It would be nicer up close. If you're not going to put your car in any shows that might knock off points for decals, then I say get a reputable shop to apply them. It will save you around $1000-$1500 or more. Hey, going down the road they all look the same. Look at some of the cars on this forum that spent big bucks for stripes and compare them to cars with decals and see if you notice the difference? I personally needed the extra money for "go fast" parts.

RE: Racing stripes?
I have the decals and it seems like yellow bird poop stains them. Regular washing does not do the trick....I will be trying one of those "Oxy*" cleaners on it soon.
The look real good though and does save a ton of cash. No regrets yet (2 months old).

Thats good to hear. I thought your(LimeStang05) stripes were painted on. They look real good. I wanted to save that cash too cuz I've been looking at getting a CAI and a tuner. It seems alot of guys are going with Brenspeed on this forum. I'll put up a picture when I get it done.

RE: Racing stripes?
Mine are 10"s wide with a 1.5" gap for the two main stripes and a 1/4" gap and another 1/4" stripe outside the main stripes.
Be prepared to pay some money for paint though it will be worth it in my opinion, especially if yo uplan on keeping the car for 4+ years. After 4 years you can expect the decals to start fading. FYI my paint was 1650 and that was with them keeping my old hood to resell, installing a new hood and hood pins. I was quoted 900 for the job by one shop, but he was only doing 2 coats of clear, you will need at least 5 coats of clear to smoothe out the seams that will be created by the stripes.
The bad camera phone pics are in Wutcha Think thread.

RE: Racing stripes?
Whereabouts are you at, mikefan20? I'm about 10 miles north of the Mexican border myself and there are a few paint shops around where I live...
There are a few paint shops in SA, but I havent lived there in a couple years and I'm not sure if they are still there. Go to www.lonestarstangs.com and ask the same question...I'm sure someone there could help you. That site is manily based out of SA, but they have people form all over TX...

RE: Racing stripes?
Machine thanks for the link. I live in Del Rio right now but I'm moving to Corpus in three months. I'll be asking people on the other forum but if anyone here knows of a place, I appreciate any suggestions.
