Default Finally popped my track cherry

I went for the first time in my life to a drag track. It was an invitational event of Ford vs. Nissan, and this being Puerto Rico, there must have been like 4 Nissans for every Mustang. Some were nice 12sec cars, though.

There were free passes before the main event and I managed to run my car twice. Car is an auto, btw. And I weight 195lbs.

First Run:
R/T = .533
60' = 2.149
1/8 = 8.778 @ 82.55mph
1/4 = 13.695 @ 95mph (yes, i let off early because I didn't know where the track ended)

Second run:
R/T = .834
60' = 2.171
1/8 = 8.789 @ 82.57mph
1/4 = 13.544 @ 101.04mph
I then parked the car and enjoyed the rest of the event from the bleachers.

Now, seeing these numbers, how should I proceed from here? Should I practice more? Or should I dose the car in gasoline and light a match? Because after all the money I've spent on mods that other people have gotten 12's out of; 13.5 is what some car magazines got out of the Mustang stock.
It's a bit of a letdown. I was looking forward to 13.20's or lower...
At least I had fun.

I'll take it back on December after a S/C install to see if I can at least break into 12.4's.

For the auto I would just practice how you launch, technique, etc.

What is your traction like at launch?

Quite squirmy. They didn't let me drive around the HUGE water box.

Well, if you didn't brake at the end, your car would end up in the Caribbean sea. LOL

Sounds like you need to play around with the launching. Y could you not drive around the water box? You should drive around it and do an extremely small burnout to remove debris and line up, launch at different RPM's see what works best.

Its the tropical heat that is killing you even though you run at sea level. Click link to figure out your density altitude correction. Is your track named Salinas? I am at sea level too and see DA of 1800 all the time.

Hey thanks for the link man. It was in the Ponce International Speedway.

I'm not sure what the temperature that night was, but I put in 86F as it was what it felt like.

According to the DA calculator thingy:
Stock and Mildly Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
13.163 @ 103.645 MPH
Extensively Modified Naturally Aspirated Engines
13.286 @ 102.741 MPH
Extensively Modified Supercharged and Turbocharged Engines
13.379 @ 101.918 MPH

The night was a bit hot and humid indeed. That would explain why the other mustangs at the event sounded really mean and racelike but only ran 14's and the like. They were 80's notchbacks, though. I thought they were all just worn out.

I'll try that next time.

Only next time, there's gonna be a Paxton H.O. under my hood.

You did a great job for the first time.. I ran a measly 14.7@98mph for mine, stock.

Another GT owner kept running a bad 15.7s ALL DAY for a few hours until finally getting down to the 14.7s.. WITH MODS.

I was running crappy 13.0s all day with my vortech until finally a 12.8 (bad track prep)
