808's m90 Install Thread

A few people suggested I do one of these threads for my install so, here we go. These are the parts to be installed Saturday November 6.
Roush m90
Jdm CAI
Jdm custom tune for blower, longtubes and Detroit rocker cams.
Autometer wideband #4378
Autometer mechanical boost/vacuum #4301
SOS A pillar gauge pod

I have two friends assisting me, well actually I am assisting them:icon_slap: as I am not a mechanic. Together we have installed my longtubes and my cams. I would never attempt these projects by myself but with their help I have learned a lot. Hopefully I will be able to pass along some helpful info that I have learned along the way. We tend to go slow, so i wont be surprised if it takes us two days, but it will be installed correctly, cause we're all very anal. Lol
I have a really nice set of craftsmen tools but picked up couple of things I didn't have. One was a fuel line disconnect tool and some long pliers for that hard to get heater hose. $15 total from napa....cheap! Also got some of that ribbed wire conduit. I don't like the idea of just wrapping the wiring with just electrical tape. It tends to not stick well in the high heat area and gets all sticky. 10 feet for $6, cheap again....sweet! 2 jugs of coolant and assort towels, zip ties, fuses and one of those dealios to connect the wideband into the fuse box....forgot what it's called. Add a buss or add a circuit....something like that.

FYI, There's currently an ongoing thread in the main S197 forum for M90 install notes/tips.

Ok buddy, since your mods are similar to mine I'm going to be watching this thread very closely. I have no doubt your install will go well. What I REALLY wanna see is how impressed you are with JDMS tune since we both have lumpy cams and LT headers. If your car runs like a raped ape with JDMS tune and 500HP pulley/intake kit and has no issues then Im getting it! The price is right! I just can't justify spending 6 grand for the bigger units when I'm never going to forge my engine anyway. I have had money pits in the past. Three Harleys I modded to the max and lost my ass on resale. Was it fun? Sure. But I'm over it. I don't know, the M90 I think will keep me in line.

With our similar mods and JDMS kit we should be able to get 450 HP to the tires no problem. Yeah, the M90 will be maxed out at 450 RWHP, but I don't wanna run the risk of having a supercharger more capable of that anyways on my stock block. It's just too tempting to get bored to wanna revisit your tuner guy and have him turn it up more only to go BOOM when you know you shouldn't have!

Looking forward to your install!

Fricken sweet! Some guy just put up a vid of his M90 install! This guy has no pulley kit or any other "major" performance mods (cams, headers etc) and put down 393 HP! With pulley kit and my mods I should easily hit 450 RWHP. Ok so what am I waiting for???? LOL!

are you swapping out the clutch? or is the stock clutch capable of holding the power

timmbo Nov 4, 2010 10:28 AM

I think the stock clutch is good for 450 hp. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Nice, I'm looking forward to seeing how your install pans out. I'm still pretty settled on the Paxton HO myself due to the $4995 price tag. I did notice that the 2010 M90 kits are suddenly $4299 at Blue Oval Industries. Thats a strong price for the kit, but it'll put down 100 less rwhp than the Paxton out of the box. The Upgrade package for the M90 would make it about the same price as the Paxton, but it would still be 50-60 rwhp shy overall. Still, I haven't ruled it out. The M90 looks easier to install since it doesn't appear I'd have to cut anything to make it fit. I also love that whine and the instant boost aspect. The Paxton would be a beast on the highway, but wouldn't be as punchy under 4k rpm... The M90 plus an upgrade kit will end up costing within $500-700 of a Saleen kit from Brenspeed. Decisions, decisons. :p

honestly, I felt no loss of low end punch with the 4.10s and the vortech.. the Paxton would be insane with the 4.10s/auto.. the "kickdown" gets it right in the powerband, and instant boost!

I will always remember flooring it for the first time from 30mph.. it simply lauches HARD from a roll or dead stop.. it was that much of a difference with gears.
