5.0L replacement engine
I posted this on another thread, but I thought it was noteworthy enough for it's own thread.
Jealous of the 5.0L that the new 2011's get?
Well, maybe it's in your future to have one in your 05-09 on the cheap. This crate engine appears to be a direct swap for the 4.6L and you can have it for only $7k: http://www.speedconcepts.net/product...1rmrsrj9iqfka4
Throw in a CAI, pulley and tune and you'll be right up there with the GT500s at 450hp+
Pretty good deal, if you ask me.

Ive been thinking about that but how much do you think it would cost to do an engine swap and how much do you think i could sell my 4.6L with 30k miles for?
just for sake of the topic. i highly doubt id actually do it.

To be honest, you probably wouldn't get *too* much for your 4.6L (though you might find a buyer on craigslist or something and get maybe $2500)
Most decent mechanics would charge around $1200 to install the new engine. You would need a different alternator probably and who knows what else, but I bet you could be installed and out the door for under $9k no problem.
a lot cheaper than a new car. Especially if you live in a place like me where cars last forever and don't rust. You can basically keep swapping engines forever!

That 412hp is base un-supercharged. It just goes up from there; not that I really care *that* much. I think 450 is perfectly fine for what I'm looking for.
And I already have nearly 100k miles on my 4.6 so if I'm going to do an engine swap *someday* anyway, I'd rather go with the current platform that will be supported for years to come. Even the aftermarket companies will be quickly switching development focus to this platform. In fact, according to Ford, that is the main reason they made the 5.0 friendly to the 05-09's... they want to keep everyone in the fold so-to-speak.
But, seriously, I'm not arguing, you're points are valid. I probably would have gone the route you suggest until I saw the reasonable price for the 5.0L. I think it's worth the extra $4k for the new coyote platform to build on. Mainly, I just want to keep the 05 general body style for as long as possible.

Looks like I posted a little too soon. After a bit of research today, I found:
This swap can be done, but it's a bit of a PITA at the moment. But it also looks like the Ford folks want to remedy that, so look for this to be a viable and *affordable* option in a year or two.
*I think they want to sell a fair number of 2011's before they make it too easy for the 05 crowd to upgrade. Makes sense. It's all about the business end of it. Gotta respect the buck. But eventually, Ford intends to make this the "Holy Grail of crate engines for the Mustang enthusiasts."

The new 5.0L crate engine can be purchased cheaper then that if you search around. And it's really not a direct swap, still need the control pack, alternator kit, and you must install a return style fuel system, also need to fab up brackets for your power steering pump.
