Default Can you disable the auto up/down windows?

I'm about to get my 2011 Mustang tinted and the tint shop said that since the window goes up and down about 1/4" when the door is opened and closed, it may scratch/lift the tint and they told me to figure out a way to disable that function. Is this possible?

Probably best thing for the installer to do would be to take the 15 minutes for each door to remove the inner weatherstripping so they can install the tint low enough on the glass as to not worry about lifting... As far as scratching, the 2008 and up came with the "moleskin" integrated into this weatherstripping... I recently replaced mine (had generic peal and stick moleskin) for the newer part (Ford OEM from Tousley Ford). These are designed not to scratch. Do they insist that every car they tint not to put the windows up/down for fear of scratching? Probably not. You may want to suggest the removal of the weatherstripping. If they are not agreeable, this may be something you can "prep" before going over, or maybe find a better shop can do the work.

Congrats on the 2011...

Don

When I had mine tinted she just took an ink pen or something and popped the lever in the door that made the window go back up like when you shut it. Then she tinted the window and everything was cool.

Maybe disconnect the battey with the windows all the way up. Then when the door is opened, they stay up all the way. You want to keep the down 1/4 inch when the door is opened. My probe did not do that automatically. And every time I got in to drive, I had to do that myself or there would be a wind whistle at speed.

+1

If they are worth a sheit at tinting,
this will hopefully not be their first rodeo.
Just click in the lock mechanism on the door
edge and the window goes back up with the
door physically being open.

Just be sure and unlock it before trying to close the door...

Disconnect the battery? Thats a good one....

It shouldn't be a problem, but if you must, there should be a fuze that contols the auto up/down. I don't remember the exact one, just take a look at your instruction manual.
