Ray,
It's been done by alot of people. You can save alot of money by shopping around for the transmission. You will need a transmission, shifter, 26 spline clutch, crossmember, and driveshaft if you are still on the stock one.

I documented my swap to help anyone thinking about doing it.

Same tools used in a clutch swap. It's the same thing except a different transmission and crossmember go back in. And the shifter gets swapped.

Performance wise does the 6 speed give us over the 5 speed? Or does it just help in gas? Obviously the gear ratios will be closer, which should help with acceleration...

Not so much performance wise, it all depends on how you set it up. The real benefit is the increased strength of the transmission and as you mentioned gas mileage. The main reason people do a swap is because our 3650 only has a 10 spline input shaft and often snap at higher power levels, plus the synchros are weaker. It really sucks that they don't offer upgraded internals for the 3650.

Shifts better, the gears and all internals are stronger, the input shaft is much stronger.

There are plenty of 3650 broken input shaft pics on different forums. All of them I've seen are a result of hooking up with a high horsepower motor.

You get a gear between 4th and 5th.
4th on both is a 1:1 ratio of engine RPMs to driveshaft RPMs
on the 5 speed, 5th is .68
on the 6 speed, 5th id .80 and 6th is .64
I SO want a 6 speed, but the dollars aren't there... yet.
