Default Hood Pins

I like em!!!! Anyone have any recomendations as far as brand, style, fit, finish. I was looking at a set of APC brand that has the keeper fitted into a slot so it just slides back and forth. The base was red anodized with stainless hardware. I have standard Shelby pins on my 65' and want to go with a little different look. Also, anyone EVER seen a cowl cover for an 05'. Not into it so much for looks but to add a little downforce on the rear edge of the hood to keep the thing from flexing so bad at high speed. Getting pretty serious about installing NOS and have to do something about that.

I used the Ford racing pins. They were the only completely stainless steel ones I could find with 1/2" pin. The aluminum ones I found had smaller pins so I didn't like those. Only problem I have with mine is that the pins aren't long enough. They barey stick out enough and only have half of the nut threaded beneath. I think they sadi 4" on the website but mine we're about 3 1/2" long. There was really only one way to install them so I doubt we did something wrong. I have a feeling I got the wrong set sent to me, but I threw away the box long ago so there's no way to tell.

The set came with the cables but I didn't want anything to rub against the paint. Also I have turned the pins so that the retainers are angled and sit flush against the scuff plate.

dajohu,

Are the Ford Racing pins actually functional, or just for show?

Thanks in advance,

I like the idea of hood pins, but I havn't seen any pins that actually look good besides the CDC ones (which are not functional)

Yes they are real hood pins that help hold the hood shut at high speeds, not that i'd ever go above the speed limit though[sm=innoc.gif]

Hope this works, these are the APC fully functional pins I was looking at. Quite a bit different than anything I've seen before.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Racin...94600407QQrdZ1

I HAVE THE FORD PINS AND TO ANYONE BUYING THEM THEY ARE NOT ALL STAINLESS PARTS.THE HOOD PINS ARE HOWEVER THE CLIPS AND CIRCULAR BALE ARE NOT AND THEY ARE STARTING TO STAIN/RUST. I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE PLATES SCREWS AND WASHERS (THEY ARE NOT STAINING) BUT I BELIEVE THEY ARE PLATED.

Interesting. How long have you had yours on? Mine have been on for 2 months and show no signs of rust on any part, the pin, plate, screws or the retainer. I have a feeling there are multiple "Ford Racing" pins available, because mine were way too short, and there's really only one place to mount them. I have not heard anyone else to have this problem, but mine certainly appear to be completely stainless. Even the spots where the retainers have rubbed against the plates have no rust at all.
