Order 2012 instead of 2011
Was ready to order a 2011 Mustang GT Premium vert, manual trans (see last post), and found out I can order a 2012 instead. Dealer said I can order now. Still hoping that I can have all black premier leather seats with black racing stripe instead of a contrasting stripe which is one of the reasons I was hesitant to get the 2011. Heard that the base price went up $200 and am sure the options will be higher. There was a $600 rebate, (at least in my area), with the 2011. So it looks like I will take a hit for at least $800. Not sure when delivery will be, but may be around the same time the Boss comes out in March. Anyhow ~ barring any unforeseen circumstances - I am planning on ordering it now. Is there anyone on this forum that has any information on the 2012 that you would share before I commit to this purchase. Here is a list for Major Product Changes for the 2012 Mustang which of course is subject to change. This is information gotten on 1-28-11.

Actually, the 2012 GT 300A (non-premium) dropped in price. But that is for the NON Premium only. The 2012 GT 400A (Premium) actually went UP in price as compared to the 2011 GT 400a (premium).
Instead of ordering, what you might want to do is wait until this summer and the 2011 GTs, the vast majority of them 400a (Premiums) will be discounted considerably to move them off the lot to make room for the 2012s.
The 2012 GT will be identical save for the cheaper price of the 300a (non-Premium) and the minor options differences you found.
The engine and transmissions will be totally identical, the 2012 5.0 Coyote will still make the very same power as the 2011. The MT82 (manual 6spd tranny) might get some minor tweak upgrades to address some problems, but even if you but a left-over 2011, you can demand the dealership put the upgrade tranny parts in before you even leave the lot.

Thanks for posting this! I'm interested in seeing the lava red metallic. Right now I'm on the fence about when I should order one. Transmission changes would be the most important factor for me if they happen, but even if they don't, I'll still order one. I wish there was a way to special order HIDs without the security package... it seems like a way to veil a $900 option as a $500 option. Yes, I'm cheap, and I don't like paying for something I absolutely don't care about.

Thank you Jim5.0 for some good advice. It's those options and upgrades that really get lost when trying to find something off a lot. Have looked at 5 dealerships and none of them have a 401A GT Premium vert decked out the way I want it, much less the right color. This will be the fifth Mustang convertible that I have had and this one will be the first that I have special ordered. Kept my present 2002 this long because I have not liked the lineups since then. Actually ~ I still think mine is "sharper" than the new one.

The best thing to do here, especially to address known problems, is to search the TSBs on the '11s and then, when you go to the dealership, and you find a car you want to buy, right before you sign the paperwork, demand that the TSBs have been addressed in the car and make the finance guy actually write that in the paperwork.
TSBs are pretty much all problems as recognized by Corporate Ford and the fixes to address the problems. TSBs even contain things as big as recalls. But I believe TSBs are also published by FoMoCo even of non-recall problems.

If you can wait and don't mind paying a little bit more the 2012 is the way to go. You will have a car ordered the way you want it, a few more minor options, 1st year bugs should be reduced/gone & resale value....being that it will be a year newer. I read somewhere that the delivery date for the "12" will be in June....I could be wrong.

I agree Daredevil95 - that the way to go is to order the latest build when given the opportunity. When both a 2011 and a 2012, (even though identical), leave the lot ~ the 2012 is in a better resale position, which would cover the higher purchase price. This may be a small consolation, but it is real. Also - surely they would not allow buyers to order the '12 if they could not get it until June. Hoping to get it around the time the Boss comes out which I think is in March. Intend to order it tomorrow. Will post results. Thinking the MSRP will be $42K+.
