JDM Trans Catch Can Install

JDM Trans Catch Can Install
I could not find much info on this so I thought I would post what I learned today. This catch can catches all the hot fluid that the 5r55 spits out when it gets hot. Normally this fluid is purged through a tube into your bell housing and eventually dripping onto your garage floor with you scratching your head saying "what now"!!
You are suppose to pop off the connector which is located on the top of the backside of the trans but also out of sight. If you have tiny hands you might be able to get if off, I could not. I then tried to dissconnect it from the bell housing end to no avail. After much frustration I finally went in with box cutters and cut the hose close to the bell housing. Using a barb connector I attached a longer hose and fed the hose back up to the engine. With the m90 I didnt have room along the firewall so I mounted my catch can on the side of the CAI shield. I ran the hose around the cam cover making sure it was routed going downhill back to the trans all the time so as to allow the fluid to drain back into the trans.
I really like the clean install and hopefully it will perform its duties when I race next weekend. The last time I raced, I was the one with fluid on the garage floor wondering WTF is that? Any of you with this issue, here is your fix.
Here are some pics. The pic with the small hose in the middle with a bolt on the left and a loom on the right is the hose that connects to the bell housing. This is the hose that I cut off. I accessed it from the drivers side firewall with a very sharp box cutter!!

Great info I think I may go with the barb fitting too, gotta see how hard it is to pull off first. With the TVS I should plenty of room on the firewall so no issue's their. I think that project will wait a week or 2 though all the constant compression clamps for the coolant lines are a real bitch and I need a break lol.

If your charger isnt installed yet you will have plenty of room to get your hand in there from the top of the engine. You wont be able to reach the back of the trans but cutting the hose will be easier. The whole deal was much harder as there was not much info on it. I had to find pics of what our trans looks like so to visualize where the hose was. I didnt want to assume anything and just go in there cutting away. It would have been better if JDM didnt assume we are all top grade mechanics and give us some pics with some directions. I am feeling better now that its done. Racing season begins in a week and I plan on beating on this car!

Reviving an old thread, but here is how I plan to hook mine up, as soon as I can get the hose
off the bell housing, using a $25.00 oil catch can.
Drilled holes and put a mount here:
Mounted the catch can with Vent:
Drilled and Taped a hole for the right angle barb fitting:
I got the hose, and coupler barb fitting I need to couple to the vent hose, just can't get that sucker out
of the bell housing.
The other benefit, is you can add fluid into the catch can to top off the trans if needed, for
any reason...
