Default Radar detector saved me but not fellow MFer

I was driving last Sunday at about 2am on a 2-lane road that was 35 mph speed limit. My date and I were going back to her house to watch a movie and they were all unfamiliar streets I was driving on. There was a 2010 GT vert in front of me going 50, so I just hung back about 100 yards and kept pace with him. All of a sudden my detector goes crazy and I lay on the brakes. Right after my date asks where the cop is at, I see a bike cop's lights ahead and he's pulling the GT over that was in front of me. When you think about the fact that a detector pays for itself if it prevents just 1 ticket, it might be the next mod you should consider.

I think a Valentine One is going to be my next 'mod'. I can say from personal experience how radar detectors work and can keep you out of trouble

My dad passed away and I'm using his Escort Passport 7500, which is pretty out dated, but is apparently still getting the job done. Thinking about getting the Passtport 9500ix which is more advanced and uses GPS. Anybody out there using this? If so, how do you like it?

You did the smart thing and did NOT rely solely on your RD; you used a rabbit. Good boy!

I've heard a lot of good things about the 9500ix. One of the top of the line products

Check out this site, specifically their test data: http://www.guysoflidar.com/index.html

I have an old, old BEL which in it's day was a great RD but by today's standards, it's just a museum piece. Bel/Escort (same company these days) and Valentine are tops.

This is an excellent forum to ask about your inherited detector: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/

I have a 9500IX and I couldn't be happier with a dash mount detector. For me it trumps the V1 many times over with its Traffic Signal Rejection (TSR) and GPS with auto-learn. It has saved my rear many times over.

www.radardetector.org is a great site for reviews also.

Oh yeah it's good to hear you used your detector the "right" way, it won't protect you 100% but when you use it as a warning like you did it'll save your rear.

My dream detector right now is a Beltronics STi R Plus
