If they are the same type of tire as stock, you will be perfectly fine. It won't look funny or handle weird. If its a completely different tire, then you may have problems.
Having more sidewall on the front than the rear would look funny to me, not to mention the fairly extreme width offset. I think a 245/45 should fit on an 8" wheel, but I'm confused, did you buy new wheels for the back, but you're keeping the stock wheels in front?

235/50/18 versus 275/40/18 is not a large sidewall difference. Its 4.6" versus 4.3". No big deal.
What width offset are you talking about? Tons of people run wider tires in the rear versus the front. The gt500 comes that way standard.

And overall the front tire is going to be over a 1/2" taller . I agree there's nothing technically wrong with any of it. And as for the tire width offset, you're right, I guess it just seemed a little wonky to me at first. I used to run 315's on the rear and 275's on the front of my '95 GT.

Unless you use a tape measure, you're not going to notice it. If the car is perfectly level, the rear wheel gap would be 1/4" larger than the front.

I think the thicker sidewall and taller tire would be noticeable, it would bug the hell out of me. What can I say, I'm a stickler for details. But I think this poor dead horse has been beaten enough. I retire.
