It won't be chargable as an accident that will increase your rates, but it will be covered as a collision - deductable applies. At least that's how my ins company (USAA) handles something like that.

That sux man. Yeah I bought my car with a dent and was going to claim it to get it payed for but found out I still have to pay the deductible, duh! I know it'll be cheaper then that if I pay out of pocket. If you get insurance quotes and you let them know its insurance quotes ahead of time, they will squeeze every penny from you since they know its going to get payed no matter what. I say go get a quote but dont tell them its for insurance and go from there.

I have USAA as well. I called them last week. The said they will cover it under uninsured driver/hit and run which is only a $200 deductible. I got a quote monday and it was $735 to repair. I am taking it in this coming Monday for the repair so it should only cost $200 and I may get a rental for the 3 days the shop will have it...

I know this is old, but I figured I would update incase others get similar damage so they know the price range.

The final price ended up being $965. I have one of the accessory pods on the underside of the trunk lid, so they charged like $150 to remove that and the spoiler. They didn't even reinstall it firmly, so I will have to reglue it eventually, but I will wait for it to fall off.
