Question Tach Malfunctioning & Fuel Filter Questions

For the last two months my tach has been way off, not sticking, just way off. When it should be at 2k it'll be at 100 or -500. Maybe this is sticking? I just tried unplugging the battery as well as resetting my tune, nothing worked. Dealer says I need to replace entire cluster, thoughts?

Also - how often does the fuel filter need to be replaced on these cars? Thanks!

Im not sure about having to replace the entire cluster, but the stepper motors that move the needles are a common problem with 05 and 06 models. I believe some members here have swapped out the motors, and others just upgrade to a My Color gauge unit.

Our fuel filters are good for 30k miles.

I would prefer to repair vs. replace as the replacement is $500+ but from what I've ready the repair is quite complicated?

Also, good to hear about the 30k fuel filters. Thought it was every 50 or 60k. Thanks.

It seems like it will be more soldering than anything else:

Depending on the quality of the fuel and condition of the tanks and filters where you buy fuel, you may go 50-60k miles before needing to replace the filter.

That's what I thought. I buy 93 octane only from Shell, always... like a religion. Always try to find a corporate station rather than a franchised one as well.

I'm pushing 30k since my last filter replacement so I might just go ahead and get it done regardless. Hear the ethanol is just eating away at them on our year of cars.
