Question Having Car Troubles...

I went to start my '06 Mustang the other day and it didn't crank correctly. I tried again and it make this horrible, loud clicking noise (not like a dead battery). I tried several times to get it to start, but it continued to make that horrible noise. I gave up and the next day I went to start it 3 more times. The first time it made the noise, but it started. So I shut it off and started it again and it made the noise, but not so bad. I shut it off one last time and started it again, the noise was gone. I thought perhaps it was just a fluke and it would be fine. ... 2 days ago I was driving down the road and my car seemed to want to shut off. My gages flickered and started to go down, the radio shut off and the mileage even flickered then it made a low humming (sort of recharging) noise for a while, but it went away and the car was fine. I've noticed that the car has trouble starting and makes some odd noises. It also does the odd humming (or recharging) noise randomly when I'm driving. Except the humming is just getting loader and worse. :/

** My father had me take the car to an AutoZone to get the battery cables cleaned of corrosion. I thought that would have fixed whatever was happened, but it has not.

What could possibly be wrong my Mustang?

Check all the ground cables, and have your alternator bench tested. Autozone can do it, but you'll have to remove it and bring it in.

Some autozones can test it on the car though, so check with them on that first.

I hope they will take it off for me, I'm pregnant and can't exactly start taking parts off the car. LOL. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it! :]

It is your battery. I have an '06 as well and our batteries only have a life of 5 years and 10 months. I am vacationing at Long Beach Island and I drove up to the beach to just check out the surfing conditions. When I got back in my car and tried to start her up, the starter sounded like it was laboring and after 3 seconds it died. I tried again and all I heard was an obnoxious clicking sound. I also experienced EVERYTHING that you described. Sounded weird but nevertheless it was the sound of a dead battery. Either way, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE YOUR BATTERY. I have a membership to Consumer Reports online so if you'd like me help you choose a battery just let me know. I ended up buying the #2 rated battery which is a DieHard "Gold" battery. It cost $115 but you get $15 back by giving them your old battery. The #1 battery was a DieHard Platinum but it was like $185. I hope I was of some help to you. I'm here if you need me.

Thank you, cboisits! I found out it's actually the alternator that's going out in it. Since the alternator is going out, it's killing my battery too. I've been checking Ebay Motors for a good price on one. I'm going to buy it as soon as I get paid. :P Then I've got to find someone to replace it for me. LOL.

Our cars are famous for a dead alternator..........Siggy called it first. Glad you figured it out. Good luck. Doesnt the bf or husband work on cars?

Geez, I thought it was just me or something I did wrong to the alternator. It's just a pain in my ***. Unfortunately, my hubby is currently deployed, so he can't fix it. :[
