Default WheelSize-Retunning

I often hear about retunning after changing to larger/wider wheels. Is that only for odometer recalibration or are there some other benefits/pit fall preventions associated with this.
I want to go from stock 17s to 18x9 front and 18x10 rear and I don't really feel like driving 80 miles to the shop where I had my Mustang orriginally tuned.

The tires for 18s will be lower profile so as long as you stay around 285/40 for rear and 255/45 for front if wheels are staggered without adjusting the tune. That is very close to stock tire height.
Wheel width wont do a thing to your tune.

BTW, the staggered look will make your car look really aggressive so you'll love it.

As long as your tire OD doesn't change drastically, it's just a change for the tire revs/mile, if there IS any change. But for drastic OD changes, you're essentially changing your overall drive ratio and, if you're REALLY fanatical about every fraction of a second AND you're an auto, a revised tune to adjust the shift points is in order. But for 90% of the population, they don't bother.
