Default Does this sound right? Speed - Gearing Question

I haven't had my 08 GT/CS too long. First manual = a lot of taking it easy driving. After realizing that I'm sometimes too slow getting up to speed from a red light (Sedans on my bumper trying to pass me) I went out tonight for a bit more aggressive driving.

Bone stock w/ 3.55 gears.

I was barely rolling in 1st and got in the accelerator pretty well (though never flooring it) @ 4k rpms, I shifted to 2nd and continued again to 4k. At this point I'm going ~45 mph.

Does this sound about right? I've watched several videos where 60 mph was hit in 2nd gear. However, I wasn't going to hit that unless I took it to WOT.

I'm not sure if its the exhaust (Cherry Bomb mufflers) but @ 4k the car is screaming and the cautious person in me let off the throttle. Years of driving Jeeps and trucks don't really let you get used to that sound.

Honestly, I was expecting a bit more pickup in 2nd gear. It seems kinda sluggish. I usually shift out of 1st at 2.5k and catch 2nd @ 2k rpms.

Then again, it could simply be the fact that the only other manual car I've driven was a Viper GTS and 2nd gear was, um,

That sounds about right. you have to take it up to about 5700 RPMs to get it to 60 in second with 3.55 gears.
and WOT means you've floored it, which I'm assuming you did up to 4K RPMs, I think the stock rev limiter is set at 6250 RPMs.
Just do it, floor it and run it up to 6K and then shift or let off, If you don't want to break any speed limits you could just shift from 2-5 and cruise off.

These cars don't really hit the torque curve until about 3k RPMs, and that stays nice and strong up to the redline.

Sorry, I should have said "taking it to redline"

While I got on the gas pretty hard, I never went WOT.

Thanks for the reply and reassurance that this is the norm.

When I was stock, if I went WOT in first, at about 4500-5K rpms the tires would start losing traction.
And don't worry too much, these cars are strong, they can take WOT runs to the redline.
