Default What year to buy, 05-08 GT?

I am looking to buy a Mustang GT next spring but i do not know which year to get. I was kind of leaning towards the 08 but not exactly sure. I was looking to spend max 18k. Any suggestions?

You'll have fewer possible issues with the '07 and '08 which tend to have fewer occurences of the problems described in the laundry list of TSB's for the S197. You should be able to find an '07 or '08 in decent condition for $18k.

If you keep your eyes open and be patient you can find a good deal on one. I got mine with a little over 7,000 miles on it this summer. So they are out there...

I would avoid getting an 05 because it's the first year of the s197 so it's generally more susceptible to the TSB problems. Take milage into account

I would target an 08... if for no other reason than the newer head design that uses a 1 piece plug.

+1 But make sure that the '08 has the new heads. My '08 has the old style heads - missed it by a couple of months on the production date.

Also, the '08s added nice options such as HIDs, ambient lighting, and premeir trim which dresses up the car a little.

I own one of these. Love the car, but it's a labor of love sometimes. Look for an 07-08. The one great thing about having an 05? Mineral Grey.

This may sound like an odd question, but why not an 09?

Checked the TSBs and it looks like the 08 with the newer heads is the winning ticket.
Why purchase a known defective prone vehicle year model?
