I'm Back!!!
Hey guys! A very long time ago I joined here and due to college had to get rid of my 2000 mustang gt 5-speed. I really missed my car, so I stayed away. Anyways, I'm back and out of college now for about 5 years and I have never lost the passion for muscle cars. I now have enough money to get a "garage queen" and I'm definitely leaning towards the s197. I had a quick affair with the THOUGHT of the ls1, but you just can't beat that sound from the mustang. Looking forward to learning a little more about the 3v and s197 in general! Thanks, and I'm here to stay!

Wow, one of the reasons I came back was because of the people and almost club like appeal of owning a mustang. We all know stock for stock an ls1 is quicker but for many other reasons we like mustangs. Unfortunately it looks like there is atleast one bag of douche on here.....

Welcome back, Corey. There's a ton of info and my fingers would probably fall off if I tried to regurgitate all I know about the S197's so use the search and read away, then feel free to ask any remaining questions. The majority of the forum members are elbow-to-elbow...

if you are looking for a 3-valve mustang.. the LS1 will be faster, but the s197 will look better (imo) and have a nicer interior. figure a "cam-only" ls1 will be pushing 375-400whp in a 3200lbs package compared to a max 350whp with cams on a 3 valve and 3600lbs. once you start getting into boost you can find all sorts of figures... but basicaly the 3 valve safe zone is 450whp, with a max of 500whp. most people with a super charger, maybe some LCAs and tires can be running mid-high 11s. probably cost about $7.000-$8,000 in mods. so it also depends on what your goals are and what you want out of thecar.. but you can be faster for less in an LS1.
ofcourse the only LS1 i would own would be either a corvette or trans am, and either of those are still pretty pricy if they are in good condition.
