Default Snapped my e-brake!

I was backing down my driveway needed to stop to let the engine warm some
so I yanked the e-brake instead of using the break-breaks. I gave it a good yank and
SNAP-THUCK! The handle had no resistance and I realized the cable broke.

So now what? I’ve never seen where the e-break cable goes and what part is
probably broken. Any one know?

Here are some useless pictures

Yikes!

Well- should be easy to figure out. The cable from the handle exits under car and routes to the rear wheels.

More than likely the cable did not break- the fixed ends or transfer point end in the cable broke. Either way- you will need to snoop around to find the fault. Or take it to the dealer and pay their technician to snoop around to find the fault- which they will do!

Good luck- Steve

There's a TSB regarding e-brake binding due to cold weather but that's related to the linkage at the wheel, not at the hand lever. But it may provide some info.

It's easier to see when the car is on the lift but under car near where differential and drive-shaft meet there's a link area forgot name of the dang thing but that's where they break most time you cant miss it.

The link area where the break-line splits to both rear discs located on driver side of car you will not miss it. Driver side under the car of course not in the cabin

Those E-brake cables are week...
No need for cold weather for them to break.
Will cost you $150 for the replacement as it comes with the handle and all.
Thanks Ford!

The new ones are improved though.

Check this thread out. It discusses replacing the e-brake handle, but it shows you how everything hooks up under the car as well.

First, stop eating the Wheaties for breakfast there Mr. strong arm...

Then review these links...

http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=112&viewfil...loded View.pdf

http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=112&viewfil...ble - Rear.pdf

And its available as an assembly only.
Handle AND cable are married together at the factory.
Not at the dealership.
Maybe its time to upgrade to the leather covered
E-Brake handle if that fits into your interior theme.

Yeah, but if those rear cables are siezed, I can see the increased effort at the lever causing the cable to snap...

OP, look at the rear cables too, specifically the rubber boots on the end of the cable at the wheel... if they're disintegrating, change out the rear cables too, I'd hate to see you snap a new front cable again because you fixed the symptom but not the cause....
