Default 2006 exhaust rattle

Hey everyone. New to the forum and glad to be here. I have a 2006 mustang gt and I have an exhaust issue. I recently purchased a UPR offroad x pipe. Before I had a bassani bolt in x pipe and mac axle back mufflers. I loved the sound. Now that my offroad x pipe is on there is an awful rattle that my mechanic says is from the mufflers. If this is so will i have this rattle no matter what mufflers i have?? Thanks.

check the condition of the hangars and make sure everything is tight. Worst case scenario is you have to buy new hangars.

I will get those checked. My mechanic put the car on the lift and I came out to check it. Everything seems pretty tight to me and nothing is rubbing. He used a rubber mallet to tap on the exhaust. There was a thud sound all the way back to the mufflers. When he tapped the mufflers it sounded like a coffee can full of coins. He said the baffle inside probably broke a weld.

Yeah that muffler is toast. I abhor rattles.

I doubt the mufflers are bad. Its very easy to install stuff and get rattles.
You need to find out where its coming from. Some common areas are where the pipes go over the panhard bar, rear bumper cutouts, and less likely, under car piping.

The position of the pipes have to be taken into account when tightening the mufflers and band clamps, and doing it right will ensure panhard/rear end clearance. Otherwise it'll settle and rattle like a sonofabitch.

sounds like your hangers are bad or the mufflers are touching the frame right behind the rear bumper. I had muffler rattle too but repositioning the muffler tip lower solved all rattles.

I had a really annoying rattle right after getting LTs. The headers came without cats so I had to buy some and have them installed on the mid pipe that came with the kit. The muffler shop didn't cut out enough pipe for the system to fit correctly and while it didnt rattle cold, once warm it would rattle like crazy. No amount of bending the hangers fixed it. I took it back and had them cut like a quarter inch out of each side, no more rattle.

Maybe the length of the system is a little off? Just another possibility that I thought I'd throw in. Probably more of an exception than the rule.
