2012 Mustang 5.0 smokes, Normal?
Well it seems that my turn has come. I bought the 5.0 in Sept. of 2011 at which time it sat for the next month. I put about 300 miles on it in October. The first 4500 miles went good, absolutely no issues. I changed the oil around 3700 and used Amsoil. I check my oil weekly. At 4500 miles i noticed it was getting low and since i had full quarts it made it easier to monitor the amount of oil it was using. Over the next 1500 miles i added another 2 quarts of oil. About 2 weeks ago i started noticing oil smoke at startup. It went from just being at startup to being anytime the engine would rev. Accelerating onto the highway, you could look in the mirror and see the smoke. So i took it to the dealer and of course they ran their diagnostics. Fords procedure is to first do an oil consumption test. They change the oil and ask you to drive a preset amount of miles, in my case 500 miles. I did the oil consumption test and then i was given this letter,
This is how much oil the catch can catches in the pcv system from a 52 mile round trip,
and here is a video of the car, after diving a 20 mile round trip to the mall.

After all of this i get told by a Ford Engineer this is NORMAL until 10000 miles. Im sorry this is not normal and needs to be fixed.

I actually did notice some smoke at start up, between around 4000 and 8000 miles, but it was only a few times and not quite as much has your video shows. I've got 12500 miles and haven't noticed any smoke in a long time.

Have you done any mods that could have caused a leak around the intake? Two quarts of oil over a span of 1500 miles seems a bit excessive. Any oil coming down on the floor or is it all coming out as smoke?

I spend about four hours a day on various Mustang forums and I can assure you that this issue is common. I'm not saying it wouldn't bother me, I'm just saying that it's not like your car has a unique problem.
We sell quite a few catch cans because of this issue. It's better to catch all of that oil before it goes through the engine. But you already know that, that's why you have a catch can.
That said, and I mean this with the utmost respect and humility, you should never rev up the engine as soon as you start it up the way you did in the video. I've heard (but don't have any quantifiable evidence) that the engine experiences more wear on a typical (non-revving) start up than it does actually driving it around. Who knows for sure. What I do know is that when the engine is not at full temp and/or the oil is not fully circulated throughout the engine, it is BAD to rev the car up.
