Should've bought a BOSS

I think suspension and big break kit is the next mod I will do. Thanks for sharing your input guys. What do you think a realistic hp gain would be with the bama tune and full exhaust? I don't think 50 would be too far off since I've read number from bama stating up to 30 hp gain and 10-20 hp gain with a borla exhaust. Idk...maybe I'm crazy.

This 5.0 with bama tune = blue line, they then dyno tuned = Red line

Here is a dyno tuned 5.0 with Kooks LT headers, Kooks O/R x pipe and catback exhaust:

You probably picked up about 20hp out of your mods, don't believe the claims of people trying to sell you stuff.
stock boss 302 puts down between 405-416whp and 355-365wtq
stock 5.0 stock is usually around 365-375whp and 345-355wtq
and most of what the boss makes in extra power is up at the top of the rpm range, 6000+rpm. the boss intake manifold basically gives your 5.0 the same gains.
typically with your mods you would be looking at around 395whp and 370wtq so i'd say you are probably a bit slower in a straight line but depends on the driver, you are getting close. to put down boss numbers you really need a cai+boss intake manifold and to get higher than boss numbers you need catless midpipe exhaust added to that mix.
then you can throw on some good suspension and upgraded brake system and you'll be faster on a road course too. for less than the boss costs.
Now, the boss does have forged pistons and crank i believe and some slightly different cams/heads so it should hold more power... however, the 5.0 in the GTs are holding 600-650whp (some people have ran 700whp on the stock engine, I dont know how well those are holding up though) which is plenty of power, im not sure how much the boss engines are holding.
For pemium price tag and my goals the Boss makes no sense for me. I believe they are collectors items more than anything. For me I just want about 650whp out of a supercharger and I'll call it a day.. (with some new 15" wheels and tires and a 1 piece aluminium driveshaft, LCAs and a couple drag racing suspension items)... all of that will likely cost less than price difference between a GT and a Boss. And i'll be blowing away boss mustangs in the type of racing i do... drag racing and straight lines...

you can build your GT to be better for less $ suspension, rims and tires, tune , exhaust, mabe even a supercharger, but without the forged internals
a GT with a tune and intake and nittos best time is like 11.87@116.9 (and you have more mods than this if you have full exhaust) , a boss's best time is like 11.81@117
id bet your car is faster than a stock boss and you can mod without regret (modded boss may lose some collectors value etc)

he has that borla cat-back exhaust sytem(borla doesn't make a header or true mid-pipe system), it adds nothing(maybe 5whp if you are lucky), he doesn't have a CAI, and he has some sort of Race Tune from unkown tuner... he could be 15-25whp over stock. or as low as 10whp over stock if he has the Ford tuner..
Although, i've seen 11.8@119mph from a couple of people with a tune and drag radials only. So i'm not sure where you are getting your best times from.... I haven't done enough research on the best boss times to comment on that.

This is the biggest fable on this forum. I got my Boss for 43.5, the loaded Gt right next to it was 36.5.....that ain't 10k.

You can build a 5.0 to be just as fast if not faster than the 302 for about what you pay for the 302.
CAI, Tune, Suspension, wheels, tires.
I doubt you need to upgrade to a big brake kit even though it will help. I think a brake line swap, fluid swap (to something like DOT 4) and some better pads is where it's at.
