interesting thoughts, but i'd be extremely hesitant to tow something behind a vehicle that's now made to tow.

Where is your sense of adventure! Cars have been used to tow trailers practically since there have been cars. It's only been the last 10-15 years when people decided only trucks and SUV's could tow trailers. Trucks are not designed primarily to tow trailers either. You have to order a trailer tow package which means a hitch and light hookups. The station wagon was probably the most common tow vehicle back in the 50's & 60's. I think the Mustang can handle 500-1000 lbs.

Sometimes the tow vehicle becomes the vehicle being towed
if the trailered weight exceeds the tow vehicles weight when
they swap ends during an emergency stop.

No trailer brakes will do that ever so often...

LOL. These cars will tow a trailer just fine. The weight isn't on the hitch, it's on the wheels. Make sure you have the load balanced right so you don't get sway and you'll be just fine.

i'm just super OCD about stuff like that. you make a good point, but if i'm towing anything it'll be behind a diesel.

Its not on the hitch in a downward direction but in an emergence stop,
its on the hitch in the direction of the tow vehicle and moving mass
is very dangerous to stop when the tow vehicle weighs less than the
weight being towed. Been there, done that, once.

It actually is stated in the manual what the trailer towing limits are. If one follows those guidelines and proper trailer loading......and common sense when driving.....the Mustang can tow just fine. It is a car......not a delicate crystal dish to be set up and looked at.

Again, I reiterate, the trailer and load will never exceed 1000 lbs and it won't be towed any real distance and probably only 2-3 times a year. I ordered a Draw-Tite 24840 Cutom Fit Sportframe hitch, drawbar, custom wiring harness 1-7/8" ball and a tube cover. $222.63 shipped. I'm taking a week off over the 4th so I plan to install it then. Thanks for the pictures!

My other car is a harley touring bike. I haven't put one on but have several friends that have a tow hitch and tow trailers that weigh as much as the OP is talking about. I'm considering picking up a jet ski next year. If I do I certainly wouldn't hesitate to tow it behind. As was stated earlier, cars were used for years to tow before trucks and SUV's became so common

I had a hitch on my old "91 convertible and towed my jetski every weekend about 100 miles to and from the bay and even 300 miles to the beach several times a summer. I never had an issue and it was a 5 speed, lowered with 3:73 rear.
