BUT...
How long it took other people isn't meaningfull...
FORD, Like most every other volume manufacturer run on a schedule.
They're running batches of options and models and your order will go into line for that type of car.
You could get a VIN is a week in the case they ran your make/model/color a week after you ordered it...
You could get a VIN in roughly 2 months if it they just ran a batch of your make/model/color right before you ordered and they were all spoken for.
If your dealer really goes to work for you and is connected properly you could be given an expected date for your batch to run...
But nobody elses lead time has any meaning at all to anyone else...

Wow. I placed my order 6/13 haven't received my vin. Dealer says "August" is the production month for the mustang at the Rock Port plant. Hope I can get one soon. Is this typical? At this point its going to be September before I see my Califonia Special.

It's rediculous, the dealers are tenacious to lock down the order, but once you do they have you on the hook and don't give a sh't. At least that's how mine seems. Dealers suck. Just a bag of lies.

I understand that the dealer is simply the middle man. I issue IMO is that they told me July 22 and I haven't even received a vin yet. That tells me (b/c they have no control of the production) that they just through out a date to appease me at the time that really had no validity.

Fair enough. I would ask them where the July date came from and if they say it was an "estimate" stick it to em politely and let them know that they presented it as a delivery date and ask them to compensate you for the hassle.
tint, clear bra, etc... are all nice freebies and worth a solid little chunk of cash retail while not being too much of an hourly slam for the dealership.
