Default lost key fob

so I lost a key fob today, pissed, must have broken off the key ring...

anyway, if I buy a new one online, and program the replacement and the spare one I have will the reprogram "lock out" the one I lost? I read that when you program the new one you need to have all the fobs you wish to program with you...

just hate the thought of someone being able to unlock my car

and

trying to save myself a trip to the dealership

its for my 05

It should change to a random code and the lost one should be unable to lock/unlock your car.

I just purchased one off ebay and programmed it myself. It's been awhile but from what I remember, I programmed the new fob, tested the old one and it did not function with my car. I then went back and programmed both fobs.

To help prevent a loss from happening again, you might want a rubber cover, such as sold at www.thejacketstore.com.

Huh?
How is a rubber cover going to prevent a key from getting lost?

Can't you stick the key in the doorlock and turn it to unlock it?!

that I can do and its whatever...... but my concern is rendering the lost one useless in case someone had gotten their hands on it and unlocked my car... although a slim to none chance, the way my luck has been lately...

thats why I want to reprogram the remaining key fob to prevent that from happening...

To the guy asking how the cover could help... With the fobs we have, the "ring" part of the fob sometimes cracks, allowing it to fall off the ring. presumably, the rubber cover would hold onto the ring long enough for you to notice it was broken on there and not have it just fall off.

When you relearn the keyless entry all fobs to be programmed to the car must be done at once (the ones you want to work) any previous will no longer work.

Unless you are able to just add a single fob on which it doesnt sound like however you weird Ford people can do it (gm stealership we have to program with tech 2, gds ect.)

So don't worry about it
