Looking at a 2011 GT and need a little feed back
After having to sell my 2010 a couple of years ago, I am looking at a 2011 GT. A few questions though as I have been out of the game for a while. I have searched the forums up and down and it seems that the #8 piston problem is a mute point. The GT I am looking at has everything I want. The one thing is does have is the 3.73 package, 6/m. I have not been able to get off of work to test drive this car yet. I have drove a couple of GT's with 3.31 (which with the 5.0 did really well I thought) and one with 3.55's. Are 3.73's too low a gear for a DD? On my 2010 with the stage 1 track pack it had a sport mode for the supsension and traction control. Does the 3.73 package on the 2011 have the same thing? Also is there a way to defeat the 1 -4 skip shift? I have not been able to get my hands on one long enough to look in the owners manual to see if and how that is done. Are there any other oddities that I need to be aware of? The 2012 I drove with 3.31's REALLY surprised me. I am hoping that 3.73's ( which I am really a big fan off makes it that much better. Thanks in advance for your help.

I can only comment on the 3.73 as that is what I have. It's been fine as a DD. The 5.0 runs about 2k at freeway speed in 6th. Can't comment on the skip shift--I have not run into it yet (gone on the '13?), but seems easy enough to disable.

skip shift only activates under very certain parameters. iirc it's something like under 3500 rpms, under 33% throttle pressure blah blah .. kinda pulling figures out of my ***, but you have to be driving pretty gently for it to activate, and it will go away if you put the gas down a little more Imagine that, a gas saving feature that encourages people to waste more gas to get around it : )

I have a 2013 as well and have never seen the skip-shift. Anyway, I have the 3.73 gears and I find that the car doesn't lose any drivability around town. You will probably lose a bit of gas mileage. Also, you may be surprised at how quickly 1st gear goes by the first time you get on it .

Went after work yesterday and test drove the car. I would not buy that one if I had got there on a mule. If that was their idea of "excellent condition" I would hate to see what "fair condition" looked like. Thanks for all of your help.

1st does run out pretty quick.
