trumpeting with pypes mid muffler and stock H?
 

I've read about trumpeting with offroad h pipes and axle backs, but not so much with mid muffler and stock catted H pipe. It really sounds bad if i'm next to a curb.

So what are my options to get a nice deep tone? When I first installed the mid mufflers, it was before the whipple and I don't remember having this irritating exhaust tone. For those not familiar with the sound in question, I believe it is what you hear in my video at 1:17 and 2:02. It only does it in a certain rpm range and part throttle, for the most part. It's most noticeable to me shifting from 1st to 2nd, because I have to feather the throttle to keep the tires from spinning.


Everyone with offroad pipes use resonators to eliminate the sound, but what about resonated exhaust tips? Maybe worth a shot.

mine trumpets more. i have LT's, o/r x, and homemade mid muffs (M80's and MBRP muffler deletes)
but i have grown to like it. lol.
having owned a 92LX and a 2000GT, those ones trumpet and drone like a mofo! but i liked those too.
maybe some resonated exhaust tips might do the trick, and wouldn't require too much work.
idk if the shape of the tailpipes themselves attribute to the trumpeting or not.
the mid mufflers tailpipes and the MBRP tailpipes are similar in that they are 2.5" pipe and then open up to a 3.5" or 4" tail pipe.
having it open up like that may be making the trumpet sound more than if it were just straight like a LM tail pipe that is just straight.
but thats just a guess.

I have a Stainless Bassani catted X pipe with stainless Flowmaster exhaust. I do not get that kind of trumpeting with my system.
Plus, I just passed my Illinois emissions test yesterday!

There are some Stainless inline Resonators available, that should certainly help.

With the high flow cats available today, I really don't think that there is any benefit to deleting them, but that is my personal opinion.

High flow cats with a blower have been known to melt. I have not seen a stock cat get clogged. I think the whipple is causing it. I can take the pypes tips off and get some cheap straight tips at discount auto. I am not having much luck finding a resonated tip online.

My car had loads of trumpeting after LTs and cams. The m80s got rid of most of it. Then I added the m90 and some came back. Put some mufflers on the rear. A flow thru style of muffler will give it a very deep tone. Forget HF cats, like you said bad idea with FI. The blower is forcing the exhaust through the pipes with more velocity than being N/A, strange that your getting trumpeting with the stock cats. This damn 3v motor is near impossible to get to sound right. Every time you make a change, your exhaust note changes and usually not for the better.

Well even a short resonated exhaust tip makes a substantial difference in tone. At least on a old ass rx7



I might try these, but being 18 inches long, they will require permanent modification of the pypes over axle pipe.

After a little research, I believe this is the tip that rx7 was using.

I'm going to see if my local walmart has them in stock. Hard to beat for $13 and if they make it sound better, then I'll get some longer, prettier ones welded on.

OMG my high school memories of a RX7 have been destroyed with that horrible video!! My God can a car sound any worse than that? NO........lol

I picked up a new used set for $125 locally here. Its a flow thru muffler, you can see right through it. Its very deep and the finish is a freaking mirror. Have had them on the car for at least 6 months and its still shiny as new. The hangers on mine were a little off but I was able to hang em straight.

Here is a video but my camara does not pick up the low frequencies so you cant hear how deep it is. I have cams, longtubes, pypes m80s with cherry bomb glasspacks mid mounted and then the Nxt step axlebacks. My idle is very deep and throaty. Cruising around you can hear it in the car but not a overwhelming drone at all. At WOT its nice and loud. They are well worth the price.

I don't want another muffler in the system. I just want the blat, blat, blat sound to go away. I had the frpp stingers before and the drone was stupid crazy!

It's not like I'm putting one of these on.

I've never liked the tips that came with the pypes mid mufflers.

Well walmart only had 1 tip in stock and the resonated area is really small. I ordered the 18 inch long slash cut ansa tips. They should give me a similar sound as the pypes bomb axle back, but for $200 less.
