trying to find a company thats willing to give me a quote of about 300-450 a month. even though its high, i would only be paying it for a month or two until i take the plates off and store it for the winter (i would keep fire and theft on) that way when i reinsure it in the spring i would have somewhat of an insurance history and hopefully the rate would go down.

Here is what I did for my children. I bought each of them a beater. A 1998 and 2000 Escort ZX2. Then I put them on my insurance for collision only. This will drop the insurance by a large amount, but does not protect your car, only any other car involved in an accident. This only works, however, if you pay cash for the car, as financers will want protection on their investment.
Both my children now have their own cars, as they waited until they were 24 to purchase their new cars. Insurance is much cheaper once you are 24.

How do you have your 2010 insured?
EDIT: Nevermind saw about it being your dad's car... I would just stick with the car you have now, or if you are really wanting to have your own registered car see if you can be added to the registration of the 2010 and also be added to the insurance. This will raise the premium but not as much as having a car under your name only.

Well, I brought it up to the wife this morning. She says location has a lot to do with it and because you're located in NY and there's more traffic, higher accident rates and your age that it is possible to have a higher rate. She still thinks its high, but she deals with personal injuries. I'll talk with her mom later tonight who does quotes as she'd probably know a little more. I paid 205 a month for a 03gt, 96gt vert and 96 coupe so I'd suggest you move your *** far away from that city lol.

You're 18 and live in NY. What do you expect? Even though the SN95 is slower than most new V-6's and some new 4-bangers, the insurance companies see a 2-door sports car with a V-8 and an 18 year old driver. You are still seen as a liability risk regardless of your driving record. 2 years isn't a long enough driving history to justify lowering the risk. I paid out the a$$ for insurance on my first Mustang (1994 GT M5) and the older I got the cheaper the insurance got. I'm 31 now and have a new 2013 GT, a Mercedes-Benz, and a 2011 Harley Davidson all with full coverage and I pay less than $600 every 6 months for all of them combined.

That is still quite a bit for insurance. Keep shopping around - maybe even go to an independent agent that will actually search for the best policy. Also, if you're not financing the vehicle, another poster pointed out that you don't need collision coverage on your car. An agent might be the best place to start, and they can answer all your questions. Of course, I still recommend checking with Amica.
