my girl took her new GT to the track for the first time

Tammy hit the strip for the first time in her life with her new car. She managed a 14.6@100mph. I was able to run pretty consistent 13.3's@109mph. I haven't driven a stick in almost 5 years so I was pretty happy.

I would kind of expect better really. I haven't had my GT to the track yet, but I ran a best of 13.2 @ 107.3mph in my 2001 LS1 Firehawk. I am hoping that with a good launch, a 5.0L should be in the 12's.

It ran about like I expected in her new car. My '12 6A/T GT is much faster and even faster now after break in. I ran consistent 13 oh's bone stock with 1K miles on street tires. After break in of 6K miles I ran 12.80's, still bone stock on street tires. My auto definitely feels faster than the stick (hers is a stick car).

The launch is key for sure with these things and the street tires just aren't gonna do it. If you are wanting to put down some decent times with these cars, tires are the first thing to do. They actually run very well (power wise) right outa the box.

I am gonna start with tires with my '12 and then do a more strip suspension set up while keeping it bone stock. Tammy, on the other hand is more interested in being loud and looking good. As long as she could surprise you at a stop light, she'll be happy...lol

Nice. I wouldn't mind her surprising me at a stop light, haha ;). But yeah, the times are not bad by any means, but street tires are hard to launch on. What was the 60' time on the 13.3 second run?

All the 60's were in the 2.5-2.7 range. I tried coming off at idle and from a 1200-1500 launch. The street tires would just go up in smoke when you stood on it hard. Gotta get some tire on both cars and let her rip.

Oh yeah. With those 60' times explain it all. Even getting those down to a 2.1 or 2.2 should get you in the 12's.

Yep, the mph is plenty for solid 12's, just got to get her to stick.

If you were running 32 psi you'd hook better lowering it even on the stockers

code3GT 09-26-2012 08:25 PM

Don't see even lowering tire pressure is gonna make difference. Tried it with mine awhile back and didn't make much difference. Need some dr's or et streets
