Smile Gas tank question for 2012 and 2013

Mitch (code3GT) and I are curious as to why his 2012 gas tank seems bigger than my 2013? When we fill up his says "319 miles till empty" and mine says "279 miles till empty"???

Could be as simple as driving styles. Remember that DTE # is also tied to the avg. MPG. It is also known as the lie-o-meter. When you fill it up it, it uses the last avg. MPG.

I think the "miles to empty" shown is an on board computer calculation using the amount of fuel in the tank times the MPG. The MPG calculation varies depending on your driving style, so if you drive more aggressively, your MPG and miles to empty numbers will be lower. Also, the on board MPG calculation is a "lifetime" number, but all of those on board numbers can be reset (at least on my '06). All this is assuming the fuel tanks are the same size, of course.

mapitts beat me to it! Also put it into more simple terms, too.

also if you recently added a tune to it that will throw the number off as well. i changed my tune last week and it went from saying i had 10 miles to empty back to saying 50 miles to empty.

See? Custom tuning does pay for itself!

That meter is like my ex-wife a lying skank. I trust it as much as I trusted her.

I am still trying to figure out why folks who own Mustangs worry about MPG. It is an environmentally unfriendly vehicle that chews pavement and ***** all over what ever good came from the clean air movement.

Kinda strange to hear these results. My trip meter "gallons used" is normally accurate to within 1 tenth of a gallon to that of the pump at fill ups.

One of the things they let go of in '10 was that feature. I actually found it to be reasonably accurate as well suprisingly. I used that display with the odometer. Don't have a clue why they stopped using it.
