Default Rearend gear install

Hi folks. I'm looking to get a set a of ford racing 3.73 gears and am wondering about the installation kits I see available. My quesiton is, do I need to buy the install kit with bearings or without? My 2005 GT has about 75K miles on it currently. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

With the amount of labor involved changing gears I would ABSOLUTELY replace all the bearings. You will not want to tear it down again in 20,000 miles to replace a bad bearing that you were holding in your hand 6 months ago! I did all mine with a 4.10 at 40,000 except for the axle bearings. Those don't require a full disassembly to change.

Good Luck!

With that many miles I would not only replace the all the bearings I would consider a new LSD as well..........that is if you plan to drag race it at all. I say that cause I had to pay that labor twice. Once for the gears and a second time when the stock diff took a dump. If you dont plan on drag racing much, then no worries.

Yes, good point. New LSD units can be pretty expensive, so unless you are REALLY into drag racing I would think the stock LSD would be fine. At least buy the new clutch packs and replace those while it's all apart.

What do you all think about the differential units that AM sells, I believe they are the GT500 diffs with 3.73s. More expensive but you're getting all new parts, deeper gears, beefier bearing, and assembled by ford instead of Joe Schmoe down the road?

Just make sure you get gears that are not made by Motive for Ford.
